What is consciousness?
Consciousness means being aware of yourself
and your environment.
What is sleep?
Sleep is a natural and periodical loss of
consciousness that we all easily succumb to.
What happens during the REM sleep?
During the REM sleep, you heart rate rises,
your breathing becomes irregular and rapid, and every half-minute or so your
eyes dart around in momentary bursts of activity behind closed eye lids.
Why do we sleep?
There are five possible reasons for having
the need to sleep:
Sleep helps us recuperate
Sleep helps restore and rebuild our fading
memories of the day
Sleeps feeds creative thinking
Sleep supports growth
What happens to our body if we don’t get 8h of
Not having enough sleep can result in having
memory loss and having difficulties with processing information, it also makes
you feel moody so you become more likely to create problems with others, plus
the lack of sleep increases the number of accidents
What do we dream?
We can dream about things happening in our lives,
we can have nightmares that we tend to confuse with reality, or we can have
dreams with sexual content.
Why do we dream?
We dream in order to:
Satisfy our own wishes
File away memories
Develop and preserve neural pathways
Make sense of neural static
Reflect cognitive development
What are the types of psychoactive drugs?
There are depressants, stimulants and hallucinogens.
What are the effects of each one?
Depressants normally calm neural activity and
slow body functions they also influence behavior.
Stimulants increase breathing rate and
blood sugar levels causing a drop in the appetite.
Hallucinogens distort perceptions and evoke

There are biological influences,
psychological and social-cultural influences.
