Diamonds are precious stones containing a clear and colorless crystalline form of pure carbon, the hardest naturally occurring substance. Even though they are stones they are also minerals. The diamond is the hardest and strongest mineral in the world. On the Mohs Scale and Vickers Scale, the diamond is on a number 10 saying that it is the hardest. Also, diamonds are so strong that they can be used in everyday life, like a ” Portable Diamond Tester.” The tester tests the diamond you might have in your house. They test is by poking a small hole in the diamond, if it is real, then it will make a sound signal. They are cubic in (isometric) form. The main variety of diamond colors are, steel gray, white, blue, orange, red, green, pink to purple, brown, and black. All colored diamonds contain structural defects that cause the coloration, also whilst pure diamonds are perfectly transparent and colorless. Elements that make up the natural diamonds are formed by carbon. This is because pure diamonds are made from pure carbon, although most diamonds contain some impurities. The other ones are Nitrogen, because it can be present in diamonds in trace amounts as an impurity because nitrogen atoms are capable of replacing carbon atoms in the crystal lattice that gives diamonds their structure, with Boron, and, Hydrogen. Whether the mineral is used by people, and if so, what it is used for- Diamonds can be used for jewelry, such as; necklaces and rings. The reason for this is because of their durability and their luster, but, most of them are used industrial purposes because of their hardness they are used to cut, grind, or drill other materials. Where the mineral is found- Diamonds are made in the earth, from the upper mantle, Diamonds are made of the same stuff coal and graphite, carbon. However, they are put under high pressure and heat to give them their shape, the process can take 1 to 3 billion years to form naturally, and they are brought up by volcanic activity. any other interesting information about your mineral- There are many kinds of diamonds, but the Diamond I like the most is called “The Hope Diamond,” located in the Natural Museum of Natural History.
