Abstract: Environmental decline is a global adversity. Though it can occur naturally or through human activities, the human is more likely to be responsible for it. Many animals and plants are on the verge of extinction due to Environment degradation. And this is a problem that is ongoing every day. As result, many problems like climate change, pollution, resource depletion, ozone depletion, ice caps melting, and Ocean acidification etc can be seen. All these worriments are so large that they are beyond the reach of individual actions. But little adjustments keeps people involved in a movement that desperately needs support. By making frugal and small individual efforts collectively like Reduce, Reuse and Recycle can go a long way and can help humanity to have a direct and positive impact on the natural environment, and many of these issues can be abridged. One should not confuse the frugality with the minimalism or deprivation. Frugality is a prudent saving and avoiding waste, this kind of lifestyle can definitely be a stepping stone in restoring environmental sustainability.
What is Environmental Degradation?
The environment is defined as the set of surroundings which envelops man from all sides and deeply influences the life and activities of man. The human needs energy, food and water to survive. But into the process of growth, we forgot to keep our roots strong, cutting down the global forest, contaminating rivers, increase of harmful gases and PM level in the air, slaughtering wild animals, mining, resource depletion and agriculture globally eliminating the sustainability of ecosystem and modifying the milieu at a rapidly growing rate. Now with the emergence of modernization, this natural environment got disturbed badly. Thus the potential of nature to sustain these manmade changes became feeble.
Why are individual efforts important?
Many people argue that the individual efforts can’t help in conserving the environment. But they forget that this natural environment is made of lots of small living and non-living components. If eviction of any one unit can globally distress the whole ecosystem, then why individual effort can’t help? This deadlock does not start from outside it starts in the human mind; it does not happen when we are fulfilling our need but when we adhere our greed. Individual efforts are paramount to the preservation of natural environment. Every person can make a difference with the cliché “Think Globally, Act Locally” by constraining one’s own effect on the environment. We influence people, children, the world and thus the generations. Any small positive or negative practice certainly goes a long way. Considering any sole effort futile is the unresponsiveness that prompts mass environmental harm. Although individual efforts may not appear to have apparent effects on the Earth, singular endeavors would have grand effect insofar as everybody is resolved to do as so.
Reduce, Reuse and Recycle
Waste (or squanders) is undesirable or unusable materials, which is disposed of after essential utilize, or it is useless, deficient and of no use. According to the Global Waste Management Conference 2017 with the current urbanization and population growth rate, the global waste generation is estimated to rise to 2.2 billion tonnes by 2025. The environmental damage of these increasing wastes is not hidden from anyone. With the continuous contamination of air, water, soil and every other resource, requirement of restoring environment sustainability has become gradually clearer. We must remember this famous aphorism “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” And practice a cordial way of life that isn’t time taking and not in any case costly yet profoundly satisfying and fulfilling. The principle of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle are the ways buyers can limit the volume of waste they produce. Three Rs is a very fundamental formula that can be applied to the context of environmental improvement, keeping up a life sustain and ecological education. Reduce is the first and best way one can lessen the waste and limit the use of resources on a first level. Reuse is the utilization of material in their original form as opposed to replacing them after each use thereby reducing the consumption of new resources. Recycle is the changing of the waste into useful materials by the physical and chemical process. It helps to prevent the new resources from entering the waste stream.
There is a lot of ways we can imply this three Rs principle in our life. These activities altogether focused on lessening waste, either by reusing or recycling the used items or by conserving the raw material and conserving energy. Everyone should play their part in reducing waste by carefully choosing the things they buy, reexamining what they do with it once it isn’t any more usable for them.
