I drought, heat and low phosphorus. This work
I am a first year MSc. Plant Breeding student at “Institute of Life and Earth Sciences (Include Health and Agriculture) Pan African University, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria”, pleased to makeinquiry about internship position with the SALT LAB which I saw in King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) Visiting Student Research Program(https://vsrp.kaust.edu.sa/pages/internships.aspx) database. With strong interests in crop breeding for abiotic tolerance, I am drawn to this position as an opportunity to make a positive impact in mitigating the factors affecting agricultural food production in Sub Sahara region of Africa. I completed my undergraduate studies at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where I graduated with Bachelor of science (Biology) First Class Honours and I am currently pursuing my MSc. Degree in Plant Breeding at PAULESI, University of Ibadan. I intern at International Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA) as a Graduate Research Fellow from July-October 2017 under the supervisor of Dr. Ossmane Boukar (Principal Scientist) and Nouhoun Belko (PDF Scientist). At IITA, I worked on phenotyping Cowpea Lines (Genotypes) for tolerance of their Agro-Morphological traits to drought, heat and low phosphorus. This work involves Sand box screening for Seedling/vegetative drought tolerance in the Screen House and Post flowering drought tolerance on the field. During my Internship at IITA I received extensive training and gained experience in several techniques used in Pre-breeding research for both biotic (Entomology, virus and Bacterial) and abiotic (Drought, Heat and Low Phosphorus) stresses in cowpea. My research interest includes but not limited to molecular plant breeding, plant abiotic stress (Salinity, Drought, Heat, & Nutrient stress), Plant genetics, Comparative genome and transcriptomes, plant tissue culture, Microbial ecology, genome sequencing, high throughput sequence, Next generation sequence etc. Futhermore, I have visited your profile, gone through your works and found that my research interests really match with your work. Do you please allow me to join your research group for my Internship under your supervision? Please find attached my Curriculum Vitae (CV) and feel free to contact if any further information is required. Looking forward to your kind reply.
