Intro: For me it is entitled as Dead Stars because when stars are die, their glow diminishes then eventually vanishes like the feelings of Alfredo when he touches the hand of Julia when they see each other after a year, he realizes that the feelings that he had to her was gone. I believe that everything happens for a reason. The story doesn’t only focus on the idea of love, but also, it exhibits how one conquers himself by understanding his true feelings. There was Esperanza who got victimized because Alfredo’s relationship with her must have ended. There was Julia who became the convenient excuse for the idea of infatuation. And there was Alfredo who was fooling himself into thinking that he was in love with a person, only to discover he wasn’t even in love at all. I think Alfredo is failed to find satisfaction or happiness in his relationship with Esperanza, but he may want to simply avoid the problems and seek another means of comfort rather than confront the discourse and it is the core reason why he have a smitten with Julia. Infatuation or smitten is the state of being carried away by an unreasoned passion or love. Sometimes people come into your life and you know right away that they were meant to be there, to serve some sort of purpose, teach you a lesson, or to help you figure out whom you are or who you want to become. You never know who these people may be, but when you lock eyes with them, you know that at that very moment they will affect your life in some profound way. And the othe story I studied is The World is an Apple because I like it, at the same time I chose this line from the story”You should have tried to bring home pan-de-sal, or rice, or milk—not those “delicious” apples. We’re not rich. We can live without apples.” because it gives a striking message about the importance of affordability of food, in which life in simplicity is much better to Gloria than what Mario wants. It uses descriptive form of language in which it was easier for everybody to understand at the same time, it speaks directly to Mario, in which Gloria says that they can live without apple. It depicts the scenario that Mario allegedly stole an apple in a store, in which he claims it will give to their daughter Tita. It was in this line that Gloria said to Mario that they can live more with foods other than the apple. They are not rich and they cannot afford an apple that costs around 70 centavos. I personally experienced being in love and be loved with my family and some friends out there like the characters of the first story so I can say that the first story I chose relates me in some aspects. The second one is very simple and it also shows how many of us ‘the Filipinos’ are living a simple life like me.
Body: Overall, this line provides us the importance of time and the consequences on wasting it. It also provides a lesson among us that time is more than valuable than anything that exists in this world. Finally, time itself will be utilized in gaining memory and experiences that will fill human personality until the end of time. I found it a little bit easy when I received such kind of task, due to the fact that it depicts poverty that is prevalently common, not only on this country, but around the world. I checked the compatibility of this line “You should have tried to bring home pan-de-sal, or rice, or milk—not those “delicious” apples. We’re not rich. We can live without apples.” , in which it contains moral values about life in reality. I also spot these lines easily considering its striking message, which is the affordability to buy things. Then, it also depicts the gap between rich and poor, in which it was far than common.
Conclusion: Sometimes things happen to you that may seem horrible, painful, and unfair at first, but in reflection you find that without overcoming those obstacles you would have never realized it by your heart. Nothing happens by chance or by means of good luck, Illness, injury, love, lost moments of true greatness, and sheer stupidity all occur to test the limits of your soul. Without the small tests, whatever they may be, life would be like a smoothly paved, straight flat road to nowhere. It would be safe and comfortable, but dull and utterly pointless. It sends a highly significant message to me. I learned the overall simplicity of life without having to buy something expensive in order to satisfy ourselves. It really helps me how to spend less in order to satisfy myself. Like for example, in order for us to save more money, we rather tend to buy lesser expensive goods so that the excess of it can be used in the future. In this case, we can still eat more, more, and more without additional expenses and additional headaches.
Therefore, this line “You should have tried to bring home pan-de-sal, or rice, or milk—not those “delicious” apples. We’re not rich. We can live without apples.” provides us the importance of life itself without luxurious means. It provides a lesson among us that there are always an alternative to the things we have in this world. It will improve one’s norms about how did they spend their money without having it too much.
