ban imposed by mayor Michael Bloomberg. This caused a huge controversy between
the residents of NYC. Research shows that the ban will decrease obesity. The
soda ban will lead to weight loss which is important because it decreases
obesity rates and health risks.

                To begin with, high soda
intake contributes to obesity
in children. Children and adolescent’s drinks at least one soda daily. This is
hurting children health
now and when they get older. We must consider that “Drinking just one 12-ounce
can of soda every day for a year is equal to 55,000 calories, or 15 pounds a
year” according to Benioff Children’s Hospital. These sodas equal up to calories which equals up to weight. The calories from the consumption of the sodas are adding
weight to the children, which over the years cause them to develop obesity. However, soda isn’t the
only factor that contributes to obesity in children. Overeating is an even bigger factor that
contributes to obesity.  Research shows that
overeating is really the underlying cause of obesity. But the researchers
didn’t mention that its easier to overdrink than overeat. According to Kelly Brownell, a psychology,
epidemiology and public health professor at Yale University, “You don’t feel as
full when you consume calories in liquids.” Drinking calories is to
talking to someone you know as eating calories is talking to a stranger.
It is easier to drink calories and not get full than to eat calories. Therefore, obesity in
children is linked to the high soda intake.
