My philosophy of Early childhood education is based on research that indicates that a child’s growth is developmental. Every child is unique in terms of life experiences, developmental readiness, and cultural heritage. A high quality early childhood program that provides a safe and nurturing environment, which promotes physical, social, emotional, language and cognitive development will ensure a positive continuation of the child’s education process In my philosophy I will talk about the goals of teaching and ways to accomplish them.
Also I will describe how I feel about public education, what kind of teacher is the best, how young children learn and develop, how best i plan to teach them and what school system works the best because of social skills and such. The overall purpose of education is teaching a student how to think. I want my students to learn how to think critically. To think is to comprehend what has been learned and be able to use it in a real situation. Thinking isn’t promoted when children are trained to be like parrots and repeat what they know without ever using that knowledge. Thinking also includes making thoughtful decisions.
I want my students to realize how their actions and decisions affect themselves and others. This would be thinking about the moral value of their thoughts and actions. The purpose of education is to have the knowledge that will allow you to be successful and provide for your family. It is most important to start at a young age. That is when you learn the most. When you are young you can learn things without even trying it flows to you as if you had some weird power but it is just the fact that your brain has such a craving and is in a quest for all of the knowledge it can handle.
As a teacher I hope to accomplish several things. First I want my students to be able to think. Secondly, I want to see that “ I got it “ look in a child’s eyes. Words can’t describe the feeling I get when I see that light switch go on, and a child finally understands something he/she has been struggling with. Another accomplishment I wish to make is to be someone’s favorite teacher. I remember my favorite teacher vividly even though I sat in her class many years ago. I have so many fond memories of her and took so much from her class. I can only dream of touching a child’s life in the way my favorite teacher touched mine.
For just one student to think of me in the same way would make all the years of hard work worth the effort. I also want my students achieve many accomplishments. I want them to use and remember what they have learned in my class. I also want them to have a broad spectrum of knowledge. I want each student to do their best and go as far as they can. I want them to feel a sense of accomplishment and be proud of themselves. I want to be the teacher who is encouraging, supportive, and pushes her students to be their best. I hope that when I am a teacher that the kids will learn from me that learning can be fun and not a task.
That there is so much to learn about that you should never be bored with learning. If they leave my class room knowing about that and the curriculum needed to succeed in my particular grade and subject. Than I accomplished everything that I wanted to. Public education is the most important form of education. It provides people with the common ability of social skills. Which can not be replaced with home school. Home school does not provide the amount of people and the situations that are presented to you at a public school. Some would argue that private school is better but not me.
There is not enough difference in people they are to regulated and there is not the diversity of people. Such as in public schools I could where a pair of jeans and a tee shirt but in public school there is most likely a uniform code. That does not give you the difference of people and their attitude on life. It also lessens student’s opportunity to see how someone else expresses their lifestyle and how they grew up. Those are the people who you deal with in the real world so it is only right and vital that you deal with those types of people when you are young.
If you have never experienced people than it is hard to buy, sell, or even talk to people with whom you do not know or even understand. When it comes to teaching I will try to make it fun and interesting not just a class that you come into and sit there. It will not be boring or a class that nothing will be learned. If a student comes into the class and just does not want to hear what I have to say and disrespects my class by talking to others, sleeping or any other disruptions. I will discipline them according to school policy and the severity of their actions.
I do not want to be harsh unless pushed to that point. The harshness pushes students away. They no longer want to listen or learn. It is when you are a teacher that enjoys the job and makes the day enjoyable that the students actually want to be there. As a teacher I cannot allow myself to get out of control. Possibly start yelling, even to the point that I have seen some teachers be, and resort to swear words. You have to be patient. Self-control is one of the most important characteristics you can have as an educator. Also as an educator you have to be strong in your values.
The students look at you as an example. You have to act with dignity and respect. In some cases you may have to try to establish respect within the students. Maybe it is because their parents did not have any values or just did not show the children what they were. It is a hard judgement call but it is necessary for a successful classroom. I think my main educational philosophy is progressivism. I think students learn by doing and need hands on activities. These activities include experiments, games, and even field trips. I also want to use cooperative learning.
In cooperative learning the students learn how to work in a group, help one another, and work well with other people. Grouping by interest and ability is sometimes beneficial to learning. All fields of education are important. No matter who you are you need to know about them all. This can help you have enough knowledge of a subject that you can decide if it is something that you would like to study further so that you may get a job in that field. All fields need to be taught so that if you like that subject you can always become a teacher. I want to teach preschool or kindergarten for a number of reasons.
I think this is the most important time in a student’s educational life. Preschools are important because problems can be addressed and sometimes eliminated early. This makes the rest of the student’s years in school much easier. I work with the public in my current job. The number of adults who have speech problems astounds me. I can’t help but think that that problem could have been taken care of if it had been treated early in life. Preschool also gives children who need extra help a head start or just catch them up to the other children their age.
Early education also teaches children socialization skills. They learn how treat and work with one another and how to interact with adults. In this philosophy I have discussed my views and opinions on the topics that I felt to be highly important. I have stated my position as some one who wants to be a teacher in the future and someone still having an opinion from the student’s point of view. It is hard to talk from the teacher’s perspective since I have never been there but I know deep down that it is something that interests me and I was meant to do.
