Production of machine operators to learn new machine

Production efficiency is one of the main
and challengeable topics in the apparel industry. It is also of importance to
researchers and practitioners because of its impact on the efficiency of
production. Within the agreed period of time, corresponding garments should be
supplied to the buyer. The aim of this study is to identify factors that affect
to the lack of production efficiency, and the steps that should be taken to
improve production efficiency to meet planned production efficiency. This study
was conducted utilizing the quantitative research approach. Employees were
selected as the sample using stratified random, from the population of 850
employees in the production department of Hirdaramani Knit Apparel. Both
primary and secondary data were utilized. Questionnaires were used as a tool to
collect primary data. To analyze data regression techniques were used. SPSS
& MINITAB were used as data analyzing software. From the secondary data
analysis, it was found that there is a linear relationship between lost time
& day output with efficiency. Primary data will be used to find out the factors
which affect to drop of production efficiency under Personal Factors, Methods
& Process, Materials & Machineries, Skill Level of Employees, Financial
Incentives, Working environment aspects. By analyzing secondary data, Absenteeism,
Defect Rate, and Loss Time were found have a statistically significant effect
on efficiency reduction. It was also identified that some sewing bands reduce planned
production efficiency in the production department. The study was conducted considering
all the sewing bands. Production efficiency is higher when the machine operator
is the main income earner in the family. Size mistakes of the cut fabric
materials, non-supportive management persons, turnover of experienced machine
operators decrease efficiency. Preferences of machine operators to learn new
machine operations, increments the allowance of grade also improve production
efficiency in the department of production.
